New COVID-19 infections rise to 15,376 with 87 deaths in Thailand on Monday

COVID-19 infections increased by 15,376 today (Monday), as 87 more patients died, including 5 who died at home and posthumously tested positive for the virus, according to CCSA Assistant Spokeswoman Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan.

Of today’s new infections, Bangkok recorded 2,573, excluding results from rapid antigen tests, which were unavailable at the time of today’s news briefing on the pandemic, said Dr.Apisamai.

The other provinces recording high numbers of new infections are Samut Sakhon (1,074), Samut Prakan (970), Chon Buri(867), Nonthaburi (719), Rayong (411), Chachoengsao (320),Nakhon Pathom (301) and Ayutthaya (290).

5,325 people in 57 communities in Bangkok have been screened in the past 24 hours, by comprehensive COVID-19 response teams using antigen test kits, and 1,093 people were found to be infected.

Cumulative infections, since April 1st 2021, are 483,815. 314,049 patients have recovered.

96,038 are still being treated in general hospitals and 71,019 in field hospitals. 4,289 are described as severe cases, of whom 967 are on ventilators.

Bangkok logged 40 deaths today, with 6 each in Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom and Pattani, 2 two each in Samut Sakhon, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ubon Ratchathani, Chachoengsao, Trat, Tak and Suphan Buri and 1 each in Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Songkhla, Kalasin, Udon Thani, Chon Buri, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, Phetchaburi and Ayutthaya.

Dr. Apisamai said the CCSA today has decided to expand facilities at 32 main hospitals, 4 field ICUs and at 7 field hospitals in Bangkok, to cope with the surge of severe (red) and moderate (yellow) COVID-19 cases.

It is reported that the Mongkut Wattana Hospital plans to add 3,320 beds to its general and field hospitals next month, 48 of which will be equipped with ventilators and as many as 150 can be equipped with high oxygen flow devices.
