National artist Thae Prakas-vudhisarn dies at 100

Thae Prakas-vudhisarn, a national artist in the field of performing art (movie and drama) in 1999 and well-known Thai film maker, died on Aug 12 at the age of 100, according to a release of the Thai Film Archive.

He was a legendary Thai film maker with the longest life in the Thai film history.

Thae, formerly Boonthae Hemabut, was born on April 26, 1918 in Ratchaburi province. He made a debut in the Thai film industry as a photographer of Patiphak Pappayon, a film-making company. He was later a cameraman for the army and air force movie units before becoming a movie director of Thai Trai Mitr, a film producer.

Well-known movies directed by him included Sao Krua Fa, Hao Dong, Muang Mai Mai and Kaew Saraphat Nuek.

He was also on record as being a cameraman for the filming of such important events as the great Bangkok flood in 1942 and the November 8, 1956 coup.

Thae also made a lot of contributions to the Thai Film Archive.
