Move Forward Party unveils its foreign policy approach

The Move Forward party, which won the most seats in Thailand’s General Election on May 14th, has unveiled its foreign policy vision, aimed at developing greater international cooperation, promoting human rights and addressing regional challenges.

With a commitment to a more open and inclusive approach, the party is looking to strengthen Thailand’s role on the global stage and contribute positively to regional and global affairs.

As head of the Move Forward party, Pita Limjaroenrat presented their foreign policy as ‘Revive, Rebalance, and Recalibrate’, or “3Rs”, during a press conference for the signing of a coalition MoU at Bangkok’s Conrad Hotel today (Monday).

Under the leadership of Move Forward, Thailand’s foreign policy agenda will reflect an unprecedented move from traditional approaches to active foreign diplomacy, cooperation and the promotion of shared values.

With “Revive”, Pita promised that Thailand’s approach will no longer be one of quiet diplomacy. Under his leadership, the foreign policy will have an active impact on international matters.

Secondly, with “Rebalance”, Pita stressed that a middle power can also lead in “rule-based diplomacy,” and Thailand is ready to lead the region under his governance.

Finally, “Recalibrate” will see foreign policy in the light of how Thailand can mutually benefit with other countries and international organisations around the world.

In addition to the 3R policy, Pita also voiced his opinion on crucial issues with one of Thailand’s neighbours.

On 21st May, Pita posted a statement about those Myanmar’s citizens who had suffered from the disastrous weather conditions last weekend. He also urged Thailand’s caretaker government to provide immediate humanitarian support, which is in line with Move Forward’s foreign policy agenda.

During the press conference, Pita also stressed that this is a pivotal opportunity for Thailand to work with other ASEAN countries and international communities to establish a humanitarian economic nexus, to help alleviate the situation in Myanmar.

In unveiling this foreign policy vision, the party wants to redefine Thailand’s role on the global stage, fostering closer ties with international partners and contributing to global peace, stability and sustainable development.

The party’s approach signifies a departure from the country’s diplomatic tradition and signals its commitment to a more forward-thinking diplomacy, after decades of seeming inactivity.
