Move Forward not join coalition with United Thai Nation or Palang Pracharath

The Move Forward party will not join any government with United Thai Nation or Palang Pracharath for many reasons, one of which is because their leaders led the last coup.

The party reached the decision during a virtual meeting with their MPs to discuss the current political situation and its position on joining a government.

The party claimed that United Thai Nation’s former core member, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, and Palang Pracharath’s leader, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, led the coup in 2014 and intended to remain in power long enough to pass the 2017 Constitution.

Prayut recently announced that he is quitting politics and has resigned from the United Thai Nation party.

The results of the May general election, which saw Move Forward win more house seats than any other party, followed by Pheu Thai, clearly show that the people want change.

The 8-party coalition they formed after the election has a combined 312 House seats and garnered 27 million votes.

Move Forward, however, withdrew from forming the government after its leader Pita Limjaroenrat, as the prime ministerial candidate, lacked sufficient parliamentary votes.

It passed the task of forming the government to Pheu Thai, the runner-up in the election. Over the past weekend, Pheu Thai was busy inviting numerous parties from outside the coalition to meet.

Two of them were United Thai Nation and Palang Pracharath. Pheu Thai leader Chonlanan Srikaew insisted that his party did not invite either to join the government, saying he just wanted to ask for their support for Pheu Thai’s prime ministerial candidate.
