Move Forward leader suggests House speakership should be settled internally

Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat has intervened in the tussle over the House speakership between the Move Forward and Pheu Thai, two core members of the 8-party coalition, saying that the issue should be settled at a meeting of the coalition partners.

He said that the war of words stems from conflicting opinions between the two parties, adding that the issue is insignificant compared to the tasks entrusted to the coalition by the people.

He urged all the parties to unite, put an end to the remnants of military dictatorship and guide Thailand towards true democracy.

Meanwhile, Pheu Thai deputy leader Phumtham Wechayachai dismissed a suggestion that Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, leader of the Prachachart party, become House speaker to put an end to the conflict between Move Forward and Pheu Thai parties.

He said that it had been agreed from the very beginning that the House speaker should be from either Pheu Thai or Move Forward.

Phumtham said that the two parties had formed their respective negotiating teams to discuss all their policies, including the House speakership, which the Pheu Thai team believes should go to the party as Move Forward will be taking the chief executive post.

The Pheu Thai party has not heard from the Move Forward negotiating team on the matter since, except for the comments voiced by party members who are not on the negotiating team.

Everything should be settled, with reasons provided, by the two negotiating teams before a public statements are made, said Phumtham.
