“Miss Grand Myanmar 2020” to remain in Thailand for her safety, before returning to Myanmar

Miss Grand Myanmar 2020, Thaw Nandar Aung, aka Han Lay, has indicated that she may have to spend more time in Thailand, before returning to her home country, as the result of a speech gave on stage at the recent Miss Grand International 2020 pageant in Bangkok.

She is quoted as saying, in part, “While I am standing here on this stage, more than 100 people have died. I am saddened for the loss of the lives of these people. The people in Myanmar have taken to the streets to fight for democracy. I too want to see democracy in the country. Please help Myanmar. We need your urgent international help right now.”

On stage, she also sang the song “Heal the World” in tears, drawing thunderous applause from the audience.

Aged 22, Ms. Han Lay is currently a student studying economics at the University of Yangon.  She is also a basketball player forthe university and a professional model.  She is fluent in English, Chinese and the Shan dialect.
