Media urged to be cautious when reporting on shooting suspect and family

Thailand’s National Human Rights Commission issued a statement today (Wednesday), urging the media to exercise discretion in their presentation of information or images concerning the suspect in yesterday’s Siam Paragon shopping mall shooting, who is a minor, and his family, to avoid arousing public hatred of them without regard for their right to privacy under the Constitution.

It also reminded both the mainstream and social media that such news presentation would be a violation of the Child Protection Act and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The commission expressed its condolences to the families of the dead and injured.
