“Lisa” can’t join Thailand’s New Year countdown celebrations, says YG Entertainment

The Thai government had promised to spend up to 100 million Baht to entice two global music stars, Lisa of BLACKPINK and opera singer Andrea Bocelli, to perform at the New Year countdown celebrations. South Korea’s YG Entertainment has responded, however, that Lisa will not be attending.

There has been much anticipation over whether the Thai K-pop sensation Lalisa Manoban will be attending the New Year countdown in Thailand.

YG Entertainment recently issued a statement stating that she will not be attending the celebrations, due to prior engagements. YG says, however, that they are grateful and highly honoured to have been invited and would like to thank everyone for their support.

Subsequently, the Tourism Authority of Thailand released a statement which says that “the TAT Seoul Office has been informed by Lisa’s agency that she is unable to attend the Amazing Thailand Countdown event” and that they “acknowledge and respect the decision”.

Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn had insisted that the project would be worth the investment and would help to boost the economy and the flagging tourism sector. The plan to hire the duo for New Year was to be proposed to the cabinet in mid-October.
