The LINE chat between someone, said to be a US Embassy official, and a Thai political activist, is a complete fabrication and the US government is not funding or providing support to any protest groups in Thailand, according to the U.S. Embassy’s spokesperson, Nicole Fox.

Earlier today (Tuesday), a group of protesters, calling themselves “The peoples of Thailand” rallied at the US Embassy in Bangkok, to protest against alleged interference in Thailand’s internal affairs by, what the protesters claim, are embassy officials.

The protest followed a social media post, circulated over the weekend of April 17^th and 18^th, purporting to show a LINE chat between a former U.S. Embassy official and a Thai political activist.

Rally at US Embassy against alleged US interference in Thai politics

A small group of Thai people rallied in front of the US Embassy in Bangkok this morning (Tuesday), to protest against alleged interference, by some embassy officials, in Thailand’s internal affairs. Led by Mr. Nitithorn Lumlua and Pichit Chaimongkol, the “Peoples of Thailand” group handed a protest letter to an embassy official.

Nicole Fox said that the official in question left in July last year, does not have a LINE account, and has not had any communication with the Thai citizen referenced in the posts.

This is not the first time the US government has been accused of meddling in Thailand’s internal affairs and politics. There was also a protest at the embassy last year, which led to a statement on September 11^th reiterating that the United States government is not funding or otherwise providing support to any of the protests in Thailand.
