Activists, who organized the anti-Prayut protest on Sunday, will be charged for allegedly violating the Emergency Decree and the Disease Control Act, according to Pol Maj Gen Piya Tavichai, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB).

Pol Maj Gen Piya said today (Monday) that a group of political activists, led by Jatuporn Prompan, had failed to seek official permission before holding the “Samakee Prachachon” event on April 4th, at which speakers demanded PM Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s resignation and which was attended by hundreds of protesters.

Jatuporn is a president of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), also known as “red-shirt” movement, who led the protests in 2010 which ended in 86 deaths.

Sunday’s protest saw many political factions participating, from the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDR), who protested right before the last coup, to the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), who protested against Thaksin Shinawatra and are known to oppose the political group led by Jatuporn.

Police are now investigating whether any of the speakers on Sunday said anything that might have broken any laws.

If, however, there are to be gatherings every day, as Jatuporn said there would be, until PM Prayut Chan-c-cha resigns, the breaches of the law they commit would just keep adding up, Piya added.
