LBGT parade in Bangkok to raise gender equality awareness

The protest today (Saturday), at Samyan and in the Silom commercial district of Bangkok, turned out to be a demonstration by the LBGT community, to raise awareness of gender equality.

Led by Mr. Siraphob Attohee, alias “Rapper”, the demonstrators, who call themselves Free Thai Plus, converged at Samyan intersection at about 4pm before walking to the Silom area in a procession under the theme of “Parade of the Proletarians”.

Free Thai Plus had previously held a rally at the Democracy Monument on July 25th, in coordination with anti-establishment protesters. They also support demands for a new Constitution and an end to government harassment of protesters. They are also calling for amendments to the Civil and Commercial Code, to make it possible for LBGT members to marry legally.

It is reported that the Constitutional Court is due to deliver a ruling regarding same sex marriage on December 21st.
