Large quantity of crystal meth seized in Chiang Rai, 7 arrested

A combined team of rangers of the Pha Muang Force, local police and officials of the Northern Border Drug Prevention and Suppression Centre seized a large quantity of crystal methamphetamine, also known as ice, and arrested seven suspects in Khun Tan district of Chiang Rai province this morning.

Acting on a tip-off, the team set up a checkpoint on Chiang Khong-Thoeng road at Ban Mai Pattana in Tambon Yang Hom of Khun Tan district, near the road to Phayapisak Forest Park for interception.

At about 3am, the team stopped a 10-wheel truck and a seadan for a search. The two vehicles were heading for Thoeng district from Chiang Khong.

The authorities found 14 fertiliser sacks containing 343 lumps of crystal meth in the back of the 10-wheel truck. The exact weight of the crystal meth was not yet known.

Seven suspects in the two vehicles were arrested. The drugs and the suspects were brought to Khun Tan police station for further legal action.
