Korn leaves Chart Pattana Kla party

Former leader of the Chart Pattana Kla party, Korn Chatikavanij, has formally left the party, effective Wednesday.

In his Facebook post following his resignation, which was delivered in writing to the party’s executive committee and registrar, Korn said the letter did not contain an explanation for his decision.

Former leader of the Kla party, Korn merged his party with Chart Thai Pattana under the new name, Chart Pattana Kla, to contest the May 14th general election. He was appointed the party’s leader.  The party was, however, routed in the general election, winning just one party-list seat. He quit as party leader and an executive committee member on June 25, while retaining his party membership.

Korn’s sudden resignation coincided with an announcement by the Office of the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives concerning the Chart Pattana Kla party’s decision to admit former Move Forward MP for Prachin Buri, Wuttipong Thonglour, who was dismissed from the Move Forward party after being accused of sexual harassment.

Wuttipong is required to join another political party within 30 days of his expulsion from Move Forward, to retain his parliamentary status. His admission to the party will increase Chart Pattana Kla’s House seats to two.

Another former Move Forward MP for Bangkok, Chaiyamparwaan Manpianjit, who was also expelled for alleged sexual harassment, has now been accepted into the Thai Progress party.
