Insurgents attack two petrol stations in Pattani on Tuesday night

Two petrol stations in Thailand’s restive southern border province of Pattani were attacked by insurgents on Tuesday night. There were no reported injuries.

Witnesses told security officials that two men on a motorcycle arrived at the PTT petrol station on Route 42, next to the bus terminal in Bana sub-district. One of them fired a gun in the air, to scare away the station staff, and the other placed an explosive device, which subsequently exploded, against one of the petrol pumps.

A similar attack was reported at a PT gas station, also on Route 42, in Piya Mumang sub-district of Yaring district.

No one was hurt in the two explosions, which damaged both petrol stations.

The attacks coincided with the cabinet’s endorsement yesterday of the first female governor of Pattani, Pateemoh Sadeeyamu.
