Innovative eco-friendly pots created for seasonal plants
Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), working with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovations, recently unveiled an innovation, called “Magik Growth”, an eco-friendly plant pot ideal for growing seasonal plants.
The Magik Growth pots are made of special polymer yarn, which is elastic and has tiny holes to prevent over-watering, which may kill the plants. The thickness of the pots is designed to suit a variety of pot plants.
Dr. Natthapob Suwanmek, a researcher of polymer technology at the National Metal and Materials Technology Centre, said that the Magik Growth pots are reusable and environment friendly, so do not add to the problem of garbage disposal.
Plants grown in Magik Growth pots have short primary roots and secondary roots, which help in absorbing nutrients in the soil and produce healthy plants with more flowers and fruit.
The pots come in a range of colours designed not to attract insects said Dr. Natthapob.
The eco-friendly pots are ideal for kitchen-garden plants and decorative vertical plant cultivation.
