Indonesian rescue workers meet 4 groups of Thai tourists

Indonesian rescue workers have reached Thai tourists trapped at four locations around Mount Rinjani volcano on Lombok island, according to a report from the Thai Embassy in Jakarta.

The embassy said in its Facebook page that four groups of Thai tourists at Bayan (north Lombok), Sembalun, Sambelia and Brang Rea (east Lombok) had been located by Indonesia rescue workers and they were trying to reach the other Thai groups trapped by landslides in the vicinity of Mount Rinjani.

The embassy said the Indonesian government had not yet declared an official disaster warning following a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Lombok early today which left at least three confirmed dead and caused extensive damages to buildings.

As of 5 pm today, the embassy has managed to compile a list of 179 Thais, most of whom travelling in groups accompanied by Indonesian guides.  Embassy officials have been in regular contact with the groups.

The honorary Thai consular office at Denpasar and the embassy are accessible at the following emergency phone numbers +62 813 37316669 and +62 811 186254 respectively.
