“I’m ready to take helm of Pheu Thai party” : Paetongtarn

Paetongtarn, the youngest daughter of convicted former prime minister Thaksin, said today (Tuesday) that she is ready to become the leader of the Pheu Thai party, if it is the wish of party members.

She said that she is ready to work for the party, no matter whether he has any formal post, adding that, if the majority of party members think that she is suitable for the leadership, she is ready to accept the post or, if there are other people who are more suitable, she is also ready to step aside “because I am for the party.”.

Speaking to the media on the 16th anniversary of the founding of the Pheu Thai party, Paetongtarn admitted that she has a deep bond with the party and is dedicated to it.

She also said that she is excited that she has been appointed by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin as the vice chair of the National Soft Power Strategic Committee, adding that this was the party’s policy during the election campaign and she and her staff are ready to do the job.

Meanwhile, Phumtham Wechayachai, Pheu Thai’s acting party leader, said that they are expected to have a new leader and new executive committee within 45 days, adding that he believes that Paetongtarn is suitable to lead the party, but that will depend on the opinion of the majority of party members.

Recently, Cholnan Srikaew stepped down as the party leader, to keep his vow that he would quit the post if the Pheu Thai party joined hands with the Palang Pracharath and/or the United Thai Nation parties in forming a coalition government.

Regarding constitutional amendments, Phumtham said the government is in the process of recruiting suitable people from different sectors of society, but preferably with backgrounds in public law, to participate in the drafting process.

He also said that he would prefer a referendum to be held to approve the charter draft, which is expected to be ready in four years.
