Former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen has described his relationship with his former Thai counterpart, Thaksin Shinawatra, as that of brothers and an excellent 32-year friendship.

“We are brothers. We talked no politics. We reminisced about our 32 years of friendship,” wrote Hun Sen on his Facebook page.

Hun Sen was the first guest to meet Thaksin, who was granted parole from corruption-related prison sentences on Sunday. Hun Sen also posted photos of their meeting today on his Facebook page, which showed Thaksin still wearing a neck brace and an arm sling. Also pictured was Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

Hun Sen invited Paetongtarn, who is the leader of the ruling Pheu Thai party, to visit Cambodia on March 14 and 15, to strengthen the relationship.

He also expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him by Thaksin and Paetongtarn. After lunching together, Hun Sen left Thaksin’s residence at about 2pm, heading back to Phnom Penh.
