HM King opens bicycle lane and pedals in a test ride

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn on Friday presided over the official opening of the Charoensook Mongkoljit (Happy and Healthy) bicycle lane at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Samut Prakan province.

The King later led 450 dignitaries in a test ride on the 23.5 kilometre track.

Prasong Poonthanet, chairman of the board of Airports of Thailand, said the bicycle lane around the international airport has been a joint operation of AOT and the Siam Commercial Bank since 2014  to promote activities for health and quality of life with an aim of making it one of the best cycling circuits in the world.

The Charoensook Mongkoljit circuit was named by HM the King on December 26, last year.

The bike lane can accommodate up to 20,000 bikers a day and is open to members of the public free of charge from 6 am t 9 pm.  But bikers must register with SNAP system.

Besides the 23.5 kilometre track, there are also a 1.6-km bicycle and jogging track and a track for children, a first-aid centre, eateries and soft drink shops as well as bicycle service shops.
