The Prachin Buri public health chief has filed a police complaint against a man, locally known as a herbal medicine practitioner, who allegedly administered an injection linked to the death of a cancer patient.
The complaint was filed by Dr Aorrarat Chanpen against an individual only identified as “Pornchai”.
He is facing charges of producing herbal-related products without permission, administering injections without a medical license and operating an unlicensed medical business.
Dr Aorrarat’s action followed a revelation by a woman, whose 61-year-old mother had brain cancer and chose to seek herbal treatment from Pornchai around December last year, but died just five days after receiving the treatment, which included drinking a herbal liquid and receiving an injection.
The deceased woman’s daughter said she came forward to warn the public about the risks of Pornchai’s treatments, not to file a complaint.
Yesterday, however, public health officials and the district chief of Kabin Buri visited Pornchai’s premises, where they found a large pot, used to prepare herbal medicines, and other related equipment.
Dr Aorrarat told the media that Pornchai has denied all the charges, but admitted providing herbal medicines to those who requested them. He denied providing injections.
Meanwhile, police say they will request the deceased’s medical records, examine the evidence collected from Pornchai’s premises and summon him for questioning.
