Handouts for 14.5 million poor for electricity, water and travel expenses
The Cabinet on Tuesday gave nod to a 38.7 billion baht populist package to help 14.5 million poor people who hold welfare cards during the period from December to next September.
The aid package will partially cover the poor people’s electricity, water, house rental and travel expenses to hospitals which the government hopes will help uplift the livelihood of the poor on sustainable basis.
Fiscal Policy Office director Lawan Saengsanit said that the budget that would be needed to ease the financial burden of the poor people for electricity and water bills was estimated at about 27 billion baht.
Each household of the poor will receive 230 baht per month for electricity bills and 100 baht/month for water bills.
