Prominent political activist Sondhi Limthongkul announced on Monday that he intends to visit Israel’s Embassy in Thailand to demand action against illegal foreign businesses operating in the country.
Sondhi, 78, claims that the current Bhumjaithai-led government is ineffective in managing the country, because it is ignoring an increasing level of fraud by “entities,” some of which he claims are funded by "foreign grey capital”.
The former media mogul said that he will visit Israel’s Embassy, in Bangkok’s Wattana district, on Thursday morning to "encourage the government to deal decisively with transnational illicit capital groups, including those involving Chinese, Israelis, Indians and Russians, as well as Thais."
His action comes against a backdrop of headlines featuring foreigners misbehaving while staying in Thailand, some of whom are Jewish.
Sondhi also hit out at Bhumjaithai's alleged 2024 Senate poll fraud, warning that he would escalate his campaign into a mass protest if the Election Commission does not forward the case to the Supreme Court.
Sondhi led the conservative/royalist People's Alliance for Democracy group, known as the ‘Yellow Shirt’ movement, against ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra’s Thai Rak Thai government, which eventually ended up with Thaksin being toppled by the 2006 military coup.
Two years after the coup, the former prime minister fled the Kingdom and lived in self-imposed exile for 15 years.
