Many Thai-Chinese people are out shopping, preparing for Chinese New Year. Bangkok’s Leng Buai La market is especially lively, with people buying ducks and chickens since early morning.
Prices of chickens (600-650 baht) and ducks (500-550 baht) are about the same as last year. Vendors say that business at the market started gaining momentum over the weekend.
According to Thanawat Pholvichai, chairman of the Advisory Board for the Economic and Business Forecasting Centre of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese New Year in 2025 is expected to generate over 51.7 billion baht in revenues, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year and the highest level of spending in the five years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
