A former village headman, his wife and two other people were shot dead by unidentified gunmen at a house in Khiri Rat Nikhom district of the southern province of Surat Thani yesterday (Saturday).
Three of the dead have been identified by police as Thammarong Nilniyom, a former village head, his wife Nilthip and Pornsak Petchu, another former village head. The fourth was not identified. All were found dead in the house.
A police team, led by Pol Col Kriengkrai Kraikaew, the superintendent of Khiri Rat Nikhom district police, rushed to the scene in Kapao sub-district after they were alerted to a shooting. More than 90 spent shells from automatic weaponswere found scattered around the house.
The police said that the motive behind the shooting is being investigated adding, however, that Thammarong has been shot and wounded before.
