Outgoing Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangkhetkeow has announced his resignation, following the recent departure of former foreign minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara.

Sihasak said he tendered his resignation because he initially took the post under former foreign minister Parnpree. Now that the minister has left, it is common practice for the vice minister to leave as well.

He added that he has not been pressured to resign, but would like leave the position open for the new foreign minister to appoint someone of his choice from his political team. Sihasak plans to return to teaching and consulting work.

In his final assignment at the foreign ministry, Sihasak headed the Thai delegation at the OECD ministerial meeting in Paris. While at the ministry, he played a prominent role in the task force for humanitarian assistance for displaced people from Myanmar.
