Supreme Commander General Pornpipat said today that he and Defence Permanent Secretary General Nath Intharacharoen, Army Commander-in-chief General Apirat Kongsompong, Royal Thai Navy C-in-C Admiral Luechai Rootdit, Air Force C-in-C Air Chief Marshal Manit Wongwart and National Police Chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda had discussed their salaries and fringe benefits as senators and agreed not to accept them from now until their retirement on September 3rd, 2020.

The basic monthly salary of a senator is 71,230 baht, plus a monthly additional sum of 42,330 baht, totalling 113,560 baht.

General Pornpipat explained that they did not want the public to have animosity toward them for receiving salaries from two sources, namely their military or police posts and from the Senate, adding that their combined salaries and fringe benefits, totalling about six million baht, can be contributed to state coffers in light of the serious health threat posed by COVID-19.

He said that Senate Speaker Pornpetch Wikchitcholchai is free to use their contributions as he thinks fit.
