Five Cambodian nationals were injured when a building, which was under construction in Bangkok’s Rama 9 area, caved in this afternoon (Sunday).

Initial reports said that there were about 25 people working on the fourth floor of the building of the 130 unit project. Suddenly, the fifth floor which was under construction collapsed, trapping some of the workers on the ground floor.

Other workers helped to pull the victims, two Cambodian men and three Cambodian women, out of the debris to safety, but they had been injured and were taken to a nearby hospital.

A rescue team soon arrived at the site to sift through concrete slabs and debris, searching for more workers who may betrapped. The operation was eventually called off.

Building inspectors from the Huai Khwang district office put the building off-limits to all workers, pending an investigation into the cause of collapse.
