First advance voting ballots being delivered to 14 southern provinces

The first completed ballot sheets, from advance and oversees voting on May 7th, left Thailand Post in Bangkok at 7pm Thursday evening for constituencies in 14 southern provinces.

Although the departure was delayed, the company’s deputy managing director for transport and logistics, Pongtorn Wisessuwan, confirmed that they will arrive at their destinations before Election Day on Sunday.

All the advance ballots, both local and from overseas, were sent to Thailand Post’s head office to be sorted for distribution to 400 electoral constituencies across the country.

The ballot sheets were contained in envelopes addressed according to the constituencies of the voters with zip codes, but about 15% were unreadable. Election officials were deployed to help postal workers resolve the problem, said Pongtorn.

He also said that, after the departure of the first lot of ballot sheets to the southern region, postal workers will work throughout the night to sort the remaining envelopes, so they can be distributed by tomorrow to their destinations
