Fans celebrate BTS anniversary at Seoul city hall with purple lights

Fans of the South Korean boyband BTS on Tuesday (June 13) celebrated the 10th anniversary of the group’s debut.

The group’s followers, known as members of ARMY, which is the official fandom name for BTS enthusiasts, arrived at Seoul City Hall, which was lit with purple lights, the signature colour of the K-pop sensation.

Fans from Canada, Mexico and Japan along with local fans were seen taking pictures in front of the South Korean capital’s landmark.

The seven-member group, which debuted on June 13, 2013, and is currently on a temporary break due to mandatory military service, has gained a huge international following after breaking new ground for K-Pop’s global success, including in the U.S. music charts and industry awards.

The celebrations are expected to hit a climax on Saturday (June 17), when BTS leader RM is expected to meet fans – followed by fireworks near the Han River, which bisects Seoul. Credit Reuters
