A campaign against the government’s controversial land bridge infrastructure project has gained significant momentum, with over 100,000 individuals and organisations signing a petition to demand a comprehensive review of the 1-trillion-baht investment.
According to Thai PBS Online, as of 7.04am today, a total of 107,083 signatures had been recorded, consisting of 106,582 individuals and 501 organisations.
The EnLAW Foundation, a Thai environmental justice NGO, together with Greenpeace and Beach For Life, has launched the website stop-sec.com for the public to sign a petition titled “STOP SEC ACT & LAND BRIDGE: Stop special laws for special people”.
The groups plan to submit the signatures to the government and relevant agencies, calling for a review of the land bridge project and the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) bill, which they say could harm the environment and local communities.
Currently, many parties still view that the project is not being worth the massive investment.
The campaign began this week and will remain open until June 30, 2026. It had an initial target of 50,000 signatures.
