The Department of Land Transport (DLT) started accepting applications today for oil subsidies from owners of licenced haulage trucks, public buses, mini buses, passenger vans, taxi and motorcycle taxi drivers. The application period lasts until Sunday.
Government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said today that the oil subsidies are intended to ease the financial burden on public transport operators of fuel price rises, adding that the Cabinet recently approved a budget of 2.06 billion baht to help the operators from April 20 until May 31.
Public transport operators entitled to the subsidies are divided into:
Buses, mini buses and passenger vans which operate on fixed routes. Buses are entitled to a lump sum of 5,040 baht per bus, on the condition that it travels at least 2,500km. Otherwise, they will each receive two baht for each kilometre, not exceeding 700 baht per day.
Buses, mini buses and passenger vans which do not travel on fixed routes will each receive 5,000 baht per unit for buses and 3,600 baht for mini buses and passenger vans.
Haulage vehicles with ten wheels or more will each receive 6,000 baht on the condition that they travel at least 4,000km. For smaller trucks, each will receive 3,000 baht on condition that they travel at least 2,500km.
Taxis will each receive 5,040 baht, but they must be equipped with DLT-approved GPS devices, which remain operational throughout the service period, and travel at least 2,500km. Motorcycle taxies will each receive 840 baht.
Applications can be submitted at the DLT or at the department’s provincial offices until April 19.
