Eight PDRC leaders to spend 2nd night in jail as Appeals Court has not yet heard their bail applications

Supporters and lawyers of the eight convicted key members of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), currently being detained at Bangkok Remand Prison, showed up to offermoral support to the detainees today.

Personal visits were not allowed, but they were allowed to talk to the detainees via video conference.

Democrat MP Ransima Rodrassamee said that, because there were many visitors, she was only able to talk to former Minister of Digital Economy and Society Buddhipongse Punnakanta and Buddha Issara via video conference, adding that all eight detainees were in high spirits, but appeared tired.

One of the lawyers, Suwat Charoenpol, said he was awaiting a response from the Appeals Court to the bail applications already submitted, adding that he expects a response this late afternoon.

At the end of office hours, at 4.30pm, there was still no word from the court.  One lawyer said that it was very likely that the eight detainees will have to spend another night in prison.

The eight being held are Suthep Thaugsuban, Buddhipongse, former education minister Nataphol Teepsuwan, former deputy transport minister Thaworn Senneam, Chuphol Julasai, Issara Somchai, Buddha Issara and Samdin Lertboon.
