The Thai cabinet has approved, in principle, the guidelines of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to be used to open Thailand to long-stay foreign tourists, in a bid to revive the domestic tourism industry suffering from the lack of foreign tourists.
Tourists, who meet the guidelines, will be issued with a special tourist visa (STV), which will entitle them to stay in Thailand for up to 90 days, with the ability to apply for two extensions of 90 days each. The guidelines will apply until September 30th next year.
The guidelines require a foreign tourist to accept the health measures imposed by the Public Health Ministry and must agree to 14-days quarantine, including in hospital if they are visiting Thailand for medical services.
The tourist must provide evidence that they have booked a hotel or hospital for the quarantine period and also documented confirmation of accommodation throughout their stay in Thailand after the quarantine period.
In case the visitor chooses to stay in a condominium, they must produce the land title deed of the condominium owned by the tourist or their family.
Ms. Traisulee Traisoranakul, the deputy government spokesperson, said today that the proposal of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is intended to attract quality tourists to Thailand, to ease the tourism slump caused by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
