More than 25 million people have registered for the government's new economic stimulus scheme, ‘Thai Chuay Thai Plus’, in its first two days.
Registration enters its third day today, with the system open daily from 6am to 10pm.
Under the co-payment scheme, the taxpayer will pay 60% of purchase price, while scheme participants pay the remaining 40% on purchases made at participating outlets.
The scheme will run from June 1 to September 30, 2026, providing a monthly subsidy cap of 1,000 baht per person. Unused funds will not roll over into the following month.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana disclosed yesterday that, as of 5pm on Tuesday, cumulative registrations had reached 25,118,335. On the opening day, 23,755,197 people signed up, with an additional 1,362,938 registering within the subsequent 24 hours.
Of the total applicants, 18,568,785 (73.9%) are previous participants of the ‘Khon La Khrueng Plus’ (50-50 Plus) scheme, while 6,549,350 (26.1%) are new applicants.
Lalida noted that the backlog of applications awaiting verification dropped from over 5.35 million on day one to just 406,547, marking a 92.4% reduction.
5,704,015 new applicants were verified and approved within 24 hours, representing 87.1% of all new sign-ups.
To date, 24,272,800 applicants (96.6% of the total) have successfully secured their rights. This is comprised of the 18.56 million previous users and the 5.7 million newly approved applicants.
Meanwhile, 438,788 applicants failed to meet the criteria. Of these, 99.51% were State Welfare Card holders, who are legally barred from duplicating government welfare benefits. The remainder consisted of deceased persons, individuals who have moved abroad or those who had violated the terms of past government programmes.
On May 26 alone, 678,466 new individuals applied, 63.6% of whom had not participated in the ‘Khon La Khrueng Plus’ scheme, indicating growing interest from new segments of the population.
Shops are also showing enthusiastic interest. 995,334 merchants have passed initial screening and 547,930 are fully registered and ready for operation. This represents an increase of 94,319 shops, or 20.8%.
The majority of these additional shops, 84,583 merchants, or nearly 90%, came from the existing whitelist of the ‘Khon La Khrueng Plus’ scheme, who logged on to accept the new terms and conditions.
The number of brand-new shops applying has also risen significantly, jumping 85.4% from 12,117 on the first day to 22,466 within 24 hours.
Of the new merchant applicants, 18,038 (80.3%) have been verified, while only 272 (1.2%) were rejected.
The remainder are undergoing further verification procedures. Among the approved new shops, 14,260 are ready for service, while 3,778 are pending final acceptance of the terms.
On May 26 alone, 9,726 new shops applied and the system managed to approve 9,035 of them (92.9%) on the same day.
For the 977,296 whitelisted merchants from the previous scheme, 533,670 (54.6%) have confirmed their participation.
The remaining 443,626 are expected to gradually accept the terms before the spending period begins on June 1.
