The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has agreed to set the household electricity price for September-December at 3.89 baht/unit, down by six satang/unit, excluding VAT.
ERC Secretary General Poonpat Leesombatpiboon said the new price is based on the basic rate of 3.72 baht/unit, instead of 3.78 baht/unit, plus the fuel tariff (FT), but without the street lighting cost which was previously charged to all households.
For households which consume less than 300 units of electricity per month, he said that the price per unit will 3 baht, but for households, rented houses, hostels, apartments and unregistered households which consume in excess of 200 units/month, but not more than 400 units, the new rate will be 4.15 baht/unit, instead of 4.22 baht/unit. The price will be increased to 4.35 baht/unit for electricity use exceeding 400 units/month.
Poonpat said that the ERC had excluded the street lighting costs from the electricity bills of all domestic users adding, however, that the commission will amend the law and regulations pertaining to the Energy Development Fund to impose additional charges on heavy electricity consumers, such as data centres, users who buy electricity directly from the producers and community-based solar cell projects, to cover the street lighting cost and household electricity price cuts.
