The Cabinet has approved a total budget of Bt1.9 billion to subsidize power bills for vulnerable groups during September–December 2024.
Deputy Government Spokesman Karom Phonphonklang told reporters on December 11 that the Cabinet, at its meeting at Government House this week, gave the green light for the subsidy.
For power bills in September, the Cabinet approved that the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority allocate a subtotal budget of Bt472.67 million for the subsidy.
The retroactive measure means that vulnerable individuals with power bills recorded at no higher than 300 units during the four-month period are eligible for the subsidy, equivalent to a 19.05 satang discount per unit.
The special measure benefits 2.31 million people in metropolitan areas and another 16.55 million in provincial areas.
