Durian, believed smuggled from Cambodia, seized in Sa Kaeo province

Thai customs officials seized 8.4 tonnes of durian, which is suspected to have been smuggled from Cambodia for sale in Thailand, from a truck in Wang Somboon district of Sa Kaeo province on Friday.

Officials deployed at a checkpoint in front of Wang Somboon Hospital became suspicious of a six-wheel truck as it approached and stopped it for a search. They found durian worth about 1.17 million baht.

The driver of the truck could not produce a document specifying the origin of the fruit, so the driver, who is expected to be charged, and the durian were escorted to the customs office in Aranyaprathet district.
