DTAC wins 900-MHz spectrum license for 38 billion baht

DTAC TriNet, a subsidiary of Total Access Communication, won the auction for a 900 megahertz licence uncontested with a bid at 38,064 million baht at the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission on Sunday.

DTAC TriNet entered the bid alone without the other bidders, AIS and True Move, which were earlier awarded the licenses for 900 megahertz spectrum.

The auction started with a bid of 37,988 million baht for five 5 megahertz of bandwidth on 900 megahertz spectrum which was eventually raised to 38,064 million baht in the second bid.

The license winner is required to pay the first instalment of about four billion baht within 90 days.

NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tanthasit said that the outcome of the auction was not unexpected, adding that the telecom regulator would continue to call bids for the remaining licenses – the 35 megahertz of bandwidth on 1800 MHz range and the 2600 MHz range.
