Dr.Sethaput Suthiwart-Narueput endorsed as new Bank of Thailand governor

The Cabinet today approved the nomination of Sethaput Suthiwart-Narueput as the new Governor of the Bank of Thailand, succeeding Dr.Veerathai Santipraphob, whose five-year term will expire on September 30th.

Sethaput, a member of the Bank of Thailand’s Monetary Policy Committee, was chosen from six candidates by the selection committee, headed by Rangson Sriworasat, former finance Permanent Secretary.

The other five candidates were Mathee Supapongse, current BOT Deputy Governor for Monetary Stability, Ronadol Numnonda, the BOT’s Deputy Governor for Financial Institution Stability, Anusorn Thamjai, a former Dean of the Economics Faculty at Rangsit University, Suchart Techaposai, Head of Research for Thailand at CLSA Securities and Tongjai Thanachanan, former Head of Institutional Business at Ayudhya JF Management.

Veerathai had not sought a second-term.
