Chada refutes alleged connection with illegal gambling den

Deputy Interior Minister Chada Thaised has refuted an allegation, by former Special Branch officer Santhana Prayoonrat, that he might be involved in a major illegal gambling den in Bang Yai of Nonthaburi because he is acquainted with the owner.

Chada told the media today that he does not give any credit to Santhana at all, claiming that he is unreliable and could not provide any hard evidence of his alleged involvement in illegal gambling.

He said that he had explained the matter to Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, during their encounter yesterday, adding that there is no need for him to explain the matter to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin as well.

Because of his work as a law enforcement officer, Chada said that it is to be expected that he might be implicated for involvement in illegal gambling businesses.

When asked by reporters about the issue, the prime minister said that it is unfair to accuse Chada of being involved, simply because the deputy interior minister is acquainted with the alleged operator of the gambling den.

He also said that the police will perform their duty straightforwardly and will take legal action against those involved in illegal activities, adding that he will not be raising the issue with Chada.
