The Democrat party wants to know who Pheu Thai’s nominee for prime minister will be before making a decision whether to vote for them.

Acting party leader Jurin Laksanawisit said Thursday that, once his party learns the name of the nominee, it will make a decision, adding that it will not be difficult for the party to decide.

At this stage, the political situation surrounding the Pheu Thai’s premiership nominee remains uncertain, though Pheu Thai has stated that it will initially nominate Srettha Thavisin, one of its three prime ministerial candidates.

House speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha has set August 22 for the next joint sitting of parliament to vote for the new prime minister.

Pheu Thai-led coalition comprises Pheu Thai, 141 MPs, Bhumjaithai, 71, Chartthaipattana 10, Prachachat 9, Pheu Thai Ruam Palang 2, Chartpattanakla 2, with Seri Ruam Thai, Plung Sungkom Mai and Thongthee Thai all having one MP.

The Palang Pracharath party has promised publicly that its 40 MPs will vote for the Pheu Thai candidate, while the United Thai Nation party (36MPs) remains undecided.
