Criminal Court denies bail to three of Thailand’s key protest leaders

The Criminal Court today dismissed bail applications for three prominent anti-government protest leaders, claiming that there is no reason to change an earlier order to hold them on remand at Bangkok Remand Prison.

Lawyers for Parit “Penguin” Chivarak, Panupong Jardnok, alias Mike Rayong, and Panasaya Sitthijirawattanakul had submitted the bail requests.

The trio are charged with inciting public unrest, related to the protests at Thammasat University and Sanam Luang on September 19th and 20th, during which a replica Khana Ratsadon plaque, celebrating the group of young army officers and civilians who staged the Siamese revolution in 1932, was implanted in the ground of Sanam Luang, which is regarded as an archeological site.
