Bangkok police seized about 340,000 e-cigarettes and liquids today, worth an estimated 30 million baht from a warehouse in the Bang Khae district, and arrested one man.
Police said that the raid on the storage facility, in a four-storey shop house on Kalpapruek Road, was the result of further investigations following the seizure of many vapes from retail outlets in the capital.
It was discovered during the investigation that the investor, who illegally imported the vapes, had recently relocated the contraband, from the Khlong Ton area to Bang Khae district, to avoid police detection.
The import and sale of e-cigarettes is prohibited in Thailand. Violators can face jail terms ranging from 3-10 years and/or a fine of 600,000 baht for sales, or a fine of up to five times the value of the vapes in case of imports, if convicted.
“Vaping” in public is subject to a maximum fine of 5,000 baht.
