Two people were injured and a house caught fire when a car bomb exploded near the residence of the chief of Tak Bai district in Narathiwat province on Sunday night.
It is not yet known whether the district chief officer, Charas Sriwallop, was at home at the time of the explosion. Two men in the house sustained burns.
After the incident, security forces sealed off the municipal offices of Tak Bai and Su-ngai Kolok districts and set up road blocks on intra-district roads, as a precautionary measure to prevent any further violent incidents.
Motorists are advised to avoid Tak Bai and Su-ngai Kolok districts, but if travel is necessary, they must carry their ID cards and car registration documents.
