Two former convicts have confessed to abducting and killing two Russian siblings who went missing in Chon Buri province about six days ago, according to police.
"Pong", one of the two brothers suspected in the case, told police that on the day of the incident, he dressed in clothing resembling a police uniform and found the vehicle belonging to the Russian siblings, Diana and Roman, parked on the roadside.
He allegedly pretended to be making an arrest and threatened them with a firearm before a confrontation broke out, during which he assaulted them and shot Roman twice in the abdomen.
Diana then allegedly attempted to resist and was assaulted until she died, according to police.
"Pong" insisted that he did not sexually assault either of the victims before he and the other suspect, "Thong", allegedly took the bodies and buried them in a forested area near Khao Chi Chan.
The two former convicts were earlier arrested in Wang Sombun district of Sa Kaeo province after allegedly fleeing and hiding in a forest.
The arrests were carried out by a joint team from Provincial Police Region 2, Sa Kaeo provincial police and security officials under warrants issued by Pattaya Provincial Court on charges of jointly committing nighttime theft using a vehicle or receiving stolen property.
When police moved in to arrest them, the two men allegedly tried to escape by running into a forest, but officers surrounded the area and managed to detain them.
"Thong", meanwhile, allegedly claimed that he tried to stop "Pong" after seeing him approach the two Russians while dressed like a police officer. He said he did not expect his brother to use a firearm and kill them.
"Thong" allegedly told police that after the Russian siblings died, "Pong" threatened him and forced him to help move and bury the bodies, warning that he knew what would happen to his wife and family if he refused.
Police are taking the suspects to identify the location where the bodies were allegedly buried near Khao Chi Chan as they continue legal proceedings.
