The body of a Russian man, who is believed to have been murdered, was found in a drain on Karon beach in Phuket province on Tuesday.
Phuket police claim that the victim, identified only as “Ilia”, was murdered and his body was dumped into the drain in an attempt to hide it.
According to forensic investigators, the victim’s wrists were cut and the left side of his head, above the ear, showed signs of blunt force trauma.
He is believed to have died at least eight hours before his body was discovered.
Pol Cpt Peerawat Yordtor, the enquiry officer of Karon police, said that he was alerted to the discovery of the body of a Caucasian man in the drain at about 12.40pm yesterday and immediately went to investigate.
He said that no official documents were found in the victim’s possession, which could have provided a clue as to his identity, adding that people in the area claim to have not seen the man before.
He said that police later discovered that he had arrived in Phuket on April 24, using a group visa, and the 90-day visa had expired on July 22.
