Police are considering arrest warrants against administrators of two web pages for posting the British tourist’s claim that she was drugged, robbed and raped while vacationing on Koh Tao island in Surat Thani province in June this year.
Deputy tourist police commissioner Pol Maj-Gen Surachate Hakparn said today that police have already identified the administrators of the two web pages and were about to issue warrants for their arrest. He claimed that their postings about the alleged rape claim has ruined the country’s reputation.
Pol Maj-Gen Surachate has met with the British consul-general in Bangkok and presented him with copies of a report of the police investigation which pointed out discrepancies in the victim’s claim and the Thai police findings from the alleged crime scenes on Koh Tao island.
For instance, he said the British backpacker claimed she was drugged and raped on the Sai Ree beach on the scenic Koh Tao island, but on that night, the beach was reportedly flooded with high tides making it impossible for anyone to sit or lie down in the area.
He said he asked the British consul-general to contact the alleged victim to send a copy of her statement given to the British police and her clothing which she claimed to be tainted with the semen of the perpetrator to the Thai police.
Regarding the alleged victim’s mother who told Thai PBS in an interview that she was ready to come to Thailand to pursue the case on behalf of her daughter, Pol Maj Gen Surachate said that her visit to Thailand would be useless because she is neither a victim or a witness of the alleged crime.
He claimed that the British consul-general expressed appreciation for the work of the Thai police in having collected evidence related to the case.
