A group of OPPO and Realme smartphone users filed complaints with the Consumer Protection Crime Suppression Division police today, claiming that the two phone manufacturers had infringed their privacy rights by pre-installing the “Fineasy” loan application without their consent.
The complainants also submitted the evidence they had gathered, hoping that it could be used as the basis for legal action against the companies.
The group claimed that about 10 of them had applied for loans amounting to 15 million baht through the application and are now obliged to repay the debts on which exorbitant interest is being charged.
Pattarakorn Teepbunyarat, of the Thailand Consumers Council, disclosed that some 192 phone users have filed complaints with the council, adding that they will issue charges under the Lending Act, the Consumer Protection Act and the Personal Data Protection Act against OPPO and Realme.
He also claimed that some of the phone users who took out the loan have discovered that the bank accounts to which they transfer their repayments are “mule” accounts.
