iCon Group CEO Waraphol Waratworakul could be the only person, for now, to face a charge of defrauding the public,under the Lending Act, according to Pol Maj-Gen Sophon Saraphat, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
To date, no charges have been filed against Waraphol, or other executives and product presenters of the company, although they have volunteered to be interviewed by Consumer Protection Division (CPD) officers.
On Saturday, CPD officers raided nine locations, seekingevidence related to the iCon Group’s e-commerce activities.
On Saturday, Waraphol reported to the CPD for questioning. He told the media that he wants be transparent and is ready to prove that his online direct sale business is legitimate, adding that he feels sorry for the losses suffered by investors.
Two executives, Yuranunt Pamornmontri and Peechaya Wattanamontree, who claim to be just product presenters, also visited the CPD separately to give statements.
This morning, former TV host Kan Kantathavorn reported to the CPD. Yesterday, he held a press conference to explain that he was hired by the company to take charge of marketing.
According to the CPD, more than 740 people, with a combined 266 million baht in investments and who claim to have sustained losses by investing in the online direct salesbusiness of the company, have filed complaints with the police.
Most claim that they had attended an initial course on the online direct sales business, organised by iCon Group, and were eventually persuaded to “invest” in the company and to become its product dealers. They claim that the company’s products hardly sold and they were told to recruit new “investors” instead.
