The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is to investigate the iCon Group case, as it pertains to money laundering, as there are sufficient grounds to believe that the money received from the investors has been converted into movable and immovable properties to evade detection.
DSI Acting Director General Pol Maj Yutthana Praedam told the media at a press conference today that the DSI will only deal with the money laundering aspect of the case, while the police continue with the defrauding the public and other alleged offences and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) deals with impounded assets.
He disclosed that the assets already frozen and/or impounded by the DSI are divided into three plots of land in Lam Look Ka district of Pathum Thani, the Icon Group office and other buildings and movable valuables, such as vehicles, wrist watches and brand name bags.
He said that all these assets have been handed over to AMLO, the proceeds from the sale of which will be distributed among investors with valid claims, once the case is over and there are convictions.
Regarding the 18 executives and core members, including CEO Waratphol Waratvorakul, currently being held on remand, Yutthana said the DSI currently alleges that the assets are ill-gotten gains acquired with money gained through fraudulent activity.
Moreover, the DSI will question other people who were involved.
